Assorted notes on 'Round'n'Round v1.0 -- Distribution
'Round'n'Round is shareware. You may copy it to whomever you wish as long as
it is in a completely unaltered state and this file is copied with it. You may
not use 'Round'n'Round to make money (and that includes selling, renting and
blackmailing, as well as putting it on an extremely heavy disk, hitting
someone on the head with it and stealing his wallet). If you, by accident or
intent, happen to make money by use or distribution of this game, you are
allowed to keep up to a dollar as long as you send the rest to me. Large scale
shareware distributors may take their usual extortionate fees, provided these
are the same as for any other shareware they distribute. Computer magazines
are allowed (and encouraged) to put this game on their cover disks. If possible
I would like a complimentary copy of the magazine (and/or disk) in question.
Otherwise I want an e-mail notice telling me where I can find it. If you have
any questions regarding the distribution of 'Round'n'Round, please don't
hesitate to contact me. My addresses can be found at the bottom of this text.
Assorted notes on 'Round'n'Round v1.0 -- Registration
Countless hours and a great deal of money have been put into the development
and testing of 'Round'n'Round. Though you already have the full game I am
certain you will find it worth paying for. The price is very low. Most of the
money for a commercial game ends up with the publisher. A shareware author
does not have this problem and should set his prices accordingly. Therefore I
ask only $5 for 'Round'n'Round, and I hope you find this low enough to help
ensure my continued devotion to the Macintosh game scene. Select "Registration"
from the "Options" menu while running the game for more information on how to
register.
Assorted notes on 'Round'n'Round v1.0 -- Running the game
To run 'Round'n'Round you need a Macintosh with system 7.0 or later and a screen
with a display size that is at least 640x480 pixels, preferably capable of
showing 256 colors. You will also need about 4 MB of free RAM. If you want
sound, Sound Manager 3.0 (or a later version) is required, as well as a 68020
processor or better. On older computers the game may perhaps not run at its
fastest, but it will still be playable.
'Round'n'Round is happy to share its existance with other programs. However, if
you are running many or demanding processes, the game may slow down and
proceed jerkily. To avoid this, quit some of the other programs you are running.
Virtual memory may slow down your computer enough to distort the sound in
the game. If this happens either turn virtual memory off, or run the game
with all sounds disabled by holding down the shift key when launching it.
Slower processors may find playing the music too demanding. If your computer
slows down excessively when the title music plays, try launching the game
holding down the option key. This will install less processor intense sound of
a slightly lower quality.
If you use a program that changes the system font or the system fontsize (such
as Kaleidoscope) it may affect the structure and readability of 'Round'n'Round's
dialog boxes. Please disable such programs before running the game.
The key configuration is preset to the numeric keypad of an extended keyboard.
If you do not have a numeric keypad, or if 'Round'n'Round fails to respond to it
try re-configuring the key setting (in the preferences dialog). This only needs
to be done the first time you start the game.
Assorted notes on 'Round'n'Round v1.0 -- Compatibility
'Round'n'Round is fat. That is, it will run natively on both 68k and Power PC
processors. The game has been tested for hundreds of hours on a great variety of
computers ranging from a Power Macintosh 9600 down to a PowerBook 145 (on
which it runs flawlessly, though it is admittedly not very fun to play in black
and white, with no sound and parts of the timer missing).
The PPC version has proved to be very stable. Should you experience crashes with
it, this is most probably due to a conflict between the game and one of your
installed system extensions. Remedy this by starting your computer with few or
no extensions installed. Running 'Round'n'Round without sound (by holding down
the shift key when launching the game) may also help in some cases.
The 68k version is not as extensively tested as the PPC version, but hopefully
it too should be equally stable. Should you experience weird crashes with it,
then I will be very grateful for a detailed bug report (see "reporting a bug"
below).
On some computers the cursor might at times flicker if it is placed in the
game window. I have as yet not figured out how to prevent this.
'Round'n'Round has been checked for viruses with Disinfectant v3.6.

Assorted notes on 'Round'n'Round v1.0 -- Reporting a bug
To avoid bug reports of the "I have a Macintosh. The game does not work" - kind
'Round'n'Round comes equipped with its own bug report system. If you hold the
control key down while launching the game, a file selection dialog will prompt
you for a name and a place for a bug report form. This form will automatically
be filled in with information about your computer hardware and software
(system version, installed extensions and the like). 'Round'n'Round will also
perform a series of self diagnose tests which will detect a variety of possible
reasons for problems. These includes altered code, missing or corrupted
application resources and possible virus infections, as well as some software
and hardware incompatibilities. At the top of the bug report form there will
also be some questions to answer. Fill in the blanks (using SimpleText or
whatever) and then mail the form to me. My addresses can be found at the
bottom of this text.
